phone boxes do not exist much anywhere in the world outside of North America, but that i mean Canada and the US. Mobiles run on a different frequency in Europe Asia and the Middle East. Their system is different. BUY A cheap new or used mobile with just a copy of your passport. NO connection , no contracts, all mobiles in Asia, the EU and Middle EAst offer internet and chat with prepaid SIM cards , its CHEAP. On

@techfan42 ””””’ Well the phone system in America and Canada is NOT the SAME as in EUROPE ASIA and the Middle EAST. . They are on a different frequency and it won’t matter if your American or Canadian mobile is unlocked, it won’t work.
Unless you have a G3.. or higher. DO WASTE MONEY and DONT BRING American or Canadian telephone systems mobiles to Europe or other countries THEY WONT WORK. Buy them. It’s cheaper and better quality, and you can use them BACK in N.America ! ironic

Great tips…especially the one about getting an unlocked phone. Although I would add getting a prepaid cell phone instead of using your regular cell phone. With TracFone, you only pay for the minutes that you use and you save so much money. You don’t have to pay for activation, overage, or cancellation fees. It’s conveninet and easy to use.

Happy 1000 video Rocketboom! You are my favorite way to get quirky, interesting, and often really helpful news stories!
That said, why hasn’t Ella given us any interesting travel spots lately?

Eh, when I travel, all I bring is my laptop, clothes, and girlfriend. And snacks, of course. And maybe a few good books…

@whereiamishere I agree just buy a cheap mobile when aboard or buy an unlocked phone from Amazon. When I visited the U.S I just bough a prepaid Tmobile basic phone with $20 credit.

if you leave North America you can buy a NEW or USED unlocked mobile (cell) for under 20 euro….basic but working. You can also buy NEW or USED SIM CARDS….which allow you to call anywhere in the world or sms…and depending on your mobile (CELL) use the net….the SIM will cost you about 10 euro…new or used.
You only need a photo copy of your passport….nothing else…..!!!!!!!!!!!!
The rest of the world is more advance than N.America. Sorry USA you have fallen wayyyy behind.

Check your devices power adapters. Most will run 110V and 240V variants, but read the label. Step up and step down transformers are heavy and expensive, it might be cheaper to order a device specific adapter for the country of use.

We just travelled to Berlin for 10 days and Verizon sent us a Euro-friendly phone that we activated just before leaving; it then becomes your phone and uses the same phone number as your US phone. Deacivate when you return and mail back. Includes all the European adaptors. Cost us $11 shipping to and from Verizon and charges of only a buck a minute; 50 cents per text (sent) and a nickely to receive a text. What a great deal!

“because of it’s flash limitations” – thats such a dumb statement, who the fuck needs flash? It’s 2010 and half the internet already bases on HTML5 and is “iPad-Optimized”

This is supposed to be Rocketboom, not RocketAd.
I felt like I was watching a shitty Fox “infomercial” advertisement.

Piccell Wireless is also an awesome way to travel abroad, they an either send you a mobile phone with a local and long distance number or just a sim card to where you are going to stay
